Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has pledged to sponsor a school girl from Thika who was seen in a viral video selling maize at night.
The video, shared by Owino on his X handle, shows the girl, a student at Kisiwa Primary School, selling maize by the roadside while still in her school uniform.
The lawmaker, who was moved by the girl’s determination, saw a reflection of his own past struggles, where he had to sell illicit brew (chang’aa) daily after school to support his family.
In a heartfelt post accompanying the video, Owino drew parallels between the girl’s challenges and his own experiences. He highlighted how his faith and perseverance helped him overcome obstacles and expressed his belief that the girl’s circumstances could be transformed through divine intervention and community support.
“These challenges are temporary for we serve a living God who is a God of turn around. If He turned a Red Sea to dry land for Israelites to pass, He will turn around your challenges into solutions. If He turned around barren wombs into babies, He will turn around your sorrows into joy. If He turned around skins full of leprosy into smooth skins, He will turn around your addiction into freedom. He will turn around your sickness into good health, your mess to a message, your test to a testimony, your lack to abundance.”
Owino has pledged to sponsor the girl’s education and provide financial support to her family to start a business.
