Shakira Wafula, the courageous protester who confronted a police officer during the recent anti-tax protests, has confirmed that she is alive and well.
Addressing the swirling rumors about her alleged death, Shakira took to TikTok to set the record straight.
“That is not true because this is me, I am alive, I am well and I have never been shot,”
She stated emphatically in the video, dispelling the false reports circulating on social media.
Shakira urged Kenyans to help combat the spread of misinformation by reporting any social media accounts and posts falsely claiming to be hers.
“Don’t allow yourself to be hoodwinked by clout chasers and people who are trying to derail us from what is currently happening in our country.”
Shakira gained national attention after a video of her fearlessly confronting a police officer during the Gen Z Finance Bill protests went viral.
In the video, she is seen standing her ground and vocally challenging the officer amid a tense standoff between protesters and anti-riot police along Cardinal Otunga Road.
The officer, visibly frustrated, listened as Shakira declared, “I’m here for Kenyans, I’m here for my people, I’m here for your rights. Nitoe!! Nitoe baba! Sitoki!”
The protest had escalated when police began deploying tear gas canisters into the crowd, and a water cannon was used to disperse the demonstrators.
Shakira’s bold stance amidst these intense moments resonated with many, symbolizing the determination of the youth in the face of adversity.
