Blogger Francis Gaitho has announced his intention to voluntarily present himself to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters along Kiambu Road today.
This decision follows a case of mistaken identity by the National Police Service (NPS), which led to the brief detention of veteran journalist Macharia Gaitho earlier in the day.
In a statement addressing the incident, the NPS clarified that the arrest of Macharia Gaitho was intended for Francis Gaitho, who is currently under investigation.
“We arrested journalist Macharia Gaitho in a case of mistaken identity, meant for the arrest of Francis Gaitho who is our subject of investigation,” the NPS stated.
They expressed regret over the incident and emphasized that journalists are not targeted by their operations.
Reacting to these developments, Francis Gaitho acknowledged the mix-up and assured the public that he would cooperate with the authorities.
“I will be presenting myself at DCI Headquarters, Mazingira House Kiambu Road at 2 pm today. Thank you all for your concern,” Gaitho announced on social media.
