President William Ruto has omitted the name of Rebecca Miano from the list of Cabinet nominees he submitted to Parliament for vetting on Tuesday.
Miano, the former Trade and Industry Cabinet Secretary, was initially nominated by Ruto on July 19 for the position of Attorney General as part of his new-look Cabinet.
However, in the list conveyed to Parliament, her name was conspicuously absent. Speaker Moses Wetang’ula communicated the President’s message to the House, stating;
“Honourable Members, Standing Order 42(1) relating to ‘Messages from the President’ provides that: ‘The Speaker shall read to the House any message from the President delivered to the Speaker for communication to the House.’ In this regard, I wish to convey to the House that I have received a message from His Excellency the President, notifying the nomination of various persons for appointment to the Offices of Cabinet Secretaries.”
Among the changes, President Ruto moved Aden Duale from the Defence Ministry to the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change, and Forestry, nominating Soipan Tuya to take over the Defence docket.
The other nominees submitted for vetting include Kithure Kindiki (Interior), Davis Chirchir (Roads and Transport), Alice Wahome (Lands, Public Works, Housing, and Urban Development), and Eric Muriithi Muuga (Water, Sanitation, and Irrigation).
Additional nominees are Margaret Nyambura Ndung’u (Information, Communication, and the Digital Economy), Debra Mlongo Barasa (Health), Julius Migos Ogamba (Education), and Andrew Mwihia Karanja (Agriculture and Livestock Development).
