Drama As Gachagua And His Allies Risk Arrest As They Storm IG Kanja Office to Seek Answers Over Police Brutality, Watch

Gachagua Leads Supporters to IG Kanja’s Office Over Alleged Police Attacks

Rigathi Gachagua, the leader of the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP), has taken a bold step by leading hundreds of supporters and several Opposition leaders to the office of Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja at Vigilance House.

The move was aimed at demanding answers over what Gachagua calls ongoing attacks and repeated security breaches at his public meetings and rallies.

This protest comes after a formal letter was submitted by DCP deputy party leader Cleophas Malala, requesting a meeting with IG Kanja.

The letter, dated Thursday, January 29, detailed 24 separate instances over the past year in which Gachagua and his team were allegedly attacked by police or unidentified groups.

The incident that recently drew widespread public attention occurred in Othaya at Witima ACK Church.

During this event, police officers and masked individuals reportedly fired teargas into the church, creating panic and terrorizing congregants—including women and children—for more than 30 minutes.

Gachagua, who was the chief guest at the gathering, was quickly evacuated by his security team.

He escaped through a back door and later left the scene by climbing over a fence. Speaking to the media afterward, Gachagua described the attack as an assassination attempt on his life. He accused the police of deliberately coordinating with armed groups to intimidate and target him.

Accompanying Gachagua to Vigilance House were prominent Opposition figures, including Kalonzo Musyoka of the Wiper Patriotic Front, Martha Karua of the People Liberation Party, Eugene Wamalwa of DAP-K, Fred Matiang’i, the Jubilee Party deputy, and Justin Muturi of the Democratic Party, among others. The visit, however, was met with resistance.

Police officers at Vigilance House reportedly tried to prevent supporters from entering the premises, leading to a brief fracas as tensions rose.

Gachagua and his team insist that the repeated attacks are a serious threat to democracy and the safety of Opposition leaders.

They are demanding direct assurances from IG Kanja that the government will protect their lives and ensure they can hold rallies and meetings without fear of violence or intimidation.

The DCP maintains that the sustained harassment is politically motivated and is calling for a transparent investigation into all the attacks, insisting that the police must be held accountable if they are found to be working with criminal elements to target political figures.

The opposition leaders’ demonstration at Vigilance House marks a significant escalation in their campaign for security and political accountability.
