President William Ruto has nominated Ugunja MP Opiyo Wandayi as the new Cabinet Secretary for Energy, following a significant reshuffle in his administration.
The nomination was announced on Wednesday and is pending parliamentary vetting.
Wandayi, who currently serves as the National Assembly’s Minority Leader, is set to succeed Davis Chirchir as Energy Secretary.
Chirchir has been nominated to take over the Roads portfolio, previously held by Kipchumba Murkomen.
Opiyo Wandayi has been a member of Parliament since 2013, having been elected on the ODM ticket.
He is serving his third term representing Ugunja constituency, which was created from Ugenya constituency, becoming Siaya County’s sixth constituency.
If confirmed by Parliament, Wandayi’s appointment will trigger a vacancy in the Ugunja constituency parliamentary seat.
