The High Court in Murang’a has convicted Ezekiel Saitabu Nakola for the murder of Grace Wangari Mwangi, the mother of Pastor Pius Muiru.
The crime occurred on March 20, 2017, at Karega Sub-Location in Kigumo Sub-County, Murang’a County.
Justice Kanyi Kimondo found Nakola guilty after evaluating the prosecution’s evidence, which proved beyond reasonable doubt that Nakola committed the crime.
Despite the lack of eyewitnesses and an admissible confession, the court concluded that the circumstances of the case created a conclusive chain of evidence pointing to Nakola’s guilt.
According to court proceedings, Nakola, who had been employed as a farmhand by Mwangi for ten years, strangled her and subsequently buried her body behind a cowshed.
He attempted to conceal the crime by covering the burial site with sand and banana stems, where he had previously buried a cow carcass.
Following the murder, Nakola also stole from Mwangi’s M-Pesa account and household items from his girlfriend’s residence in Karega.
The court has scheduled Nakola’s sentencing for September 19, 2024.
