A Sierra Leonean woman, Bioma Alice Gbassay, was apprehended on Thursday at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) by undercover detectives from the Anti-Narcotics Unit.
Gbassay, who was en route to Mumbai, India, was found in possession of 1,080 grams of cocaine concealed within her inner garments and luggage.
According to a statement from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the arrest occurred following a thorough search conducted by the anti-narcotics team.
Gbassay was initially flagged for a routine check but became a focal point of scrutiny when a suspicious substance was detected.
The DCI statement revealed that a whitish substance, wrapped in clear tape, was recovered from the suspect’s inner garments.
Additionally, two slabs of dove soap, which were found to contain a powdery substance, were also seized from her luggage.
Subsequent laboratory tests confirmed that both the taped substance and the powdery content were cocaine.
The interception was part of a coordinated effort by the Anti-Narcotics Unit to curb drug trafficking at Kenya’s major airports.
Gbassay is currently in custody, and further investigations are underway to determine any potential connections to larger trafficking networks.
