Nancy Kigunzu, commonly known as Mathee wa Ngara, along with her co-accused, David Ochieng and Christopher Odipo, will find out next Monday whether they will be granted bond or remain in custody.
The trio faces charges of trafficking and conspiracy to traffic narcotics at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) courts.
The prosecution alleges that Kigunzu, Ochieng, and Odipo were apprehended on August 9, 2024, at Georgina Apartments in Juja, Kiambu County.
They were found in possession of 18.3 kilograms of cannabis, estimated to be worth Sh6 million.
Following their arrest, Kigunzu was remanded at Lang’ata Women’s Prison, while Ochieng and Odipo were held at Industrial Area Remand Prison.
Before Magistrate Renee Kitagwa, Ochieng and Odipo pleaded not guilty to both charges. Kigunzu admitted guilt to the narcotics trafficking charge but denied conspiracy to traffic narcotics.
State Prosecutor Allen Mulama argued against granting bond, asserting that Kigunzu, a repeat offender, might obstruct justice or tamper with witnesses if released.
Mulama noted Kigunzu’s previous conviction by the Kahawa Law Courts for narcotics handling, where she was fined Sh500,000 or sentenced to one year in prison.
He also highlighted an ongoing case from August 2023, where Kigunzu is charged with handling narcotics valued at Sh18.3 million.
The court will reconvene on Monday to determine the bond status of Kigunzu, Ochieng, and Odipo.
