Former Minister Franklin Bett narrowly escaped death on Thursday evening after being involved in a serious road accident along the Awasi-Kericho road in Kisumu County.
The accident, which occurred around 7 p.m., also left Bett’s driver and two other passengers injured, according to police reports.
The incident took place in the Karange area, where Bett’s four-wheel drive vehicle collided with a tractor loaded with sugarcane.
Both vehicles were traveling in the same direction when Bett’s driver reportedly failed to notice the slow-moving tractor ahead.
The tractor, which lacked proper signage, continued on its way after the collision, leaving the scene of the accident.
Police believe that the absence of visibility markers on the tractor contributed to the crash.
Bett, along with the other injured passengers and his driver, was quickly rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. The full extent of their injuries has not been disclosed.
The accident has raised concerns about road safety, particularly regarding the visibility of slow-moving vehicles like tractors on major roads.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing as authorities seek to locate the tractor driver and determine the exact circumstances that led to the collision.
