EACC Summons Didmus Barasa Over Bribery Allegations

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has summoned Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa over bribery allegations. The lawmaker is required to appear at the commission’s headquarters on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, to respond to the accusations after missing a previous summon.

Barasa was first asked to present himself on August 14, 2024, but he failed to comply. As a result, the EACC issued a second notice, urging him to record a statement regarding the bribery claims.

The commission made it clear that if Barasa does not show up this time, the investigation will proceed without his participation.

The bribery case centers on documents reportedly showing that the transaction took place on December 13, 2023.

These documents have sparked the investigation, leading the EACC to seek Barasa’s input.

This is not the first time the Kimilili MP has faced legal challenges. Earlier in 2023, Barasa was involved in a high-profile case where he was accused of shooting Brian Olunga, the assistant of his rival, Brian Khaemba, during a confrontation at Chebukwabi polling station.

Following the shooting incident, Barasa surrendered to authorities, resulting in the seizure of his firearm.

However, after a ten-month trial, the Bungoma High Court acquitted him, citing insufficient evidence to prove the charges against him.

The latest bribery allegations put Barasa back in the spotlight, raising questions about whether he will cooperate with the EACC this time.

The upcoming date on August 27, 2024, will determine whether Barasa will comply with the summons and clear his name from the bribery accusations.

With his history of run-ins with the law and the high stakes involved, many will be watching closely to see if Barasa responds to this fresh controversy.
