The incident at the Full Gospel Kawangware church arose after youth members confronted their bishop, expressing concerns about the safety and management of their funds.
The conflict escalated when the bishop demanded that congregants contribute towards buying him a Toyota Prado TX, a luxury vehicle.
The congregation, however, felt that they were not financially capable of meeting such a demand, especially after saving a significant amount for a school bus project.
The bishop’s actions, which included attempts to replace bank signatories with his proxies, deepened the mistrust among church members.
Many felt that this was a clear indication of his intention to misuse the church’s funds.
The youth, along with other congregants, demanded transparency regarding the church’s financial dealings, particularly those related to the school bus and a water-selling business owned by the church.
They insisted on seeing financial records and voiced their frustration over the bishop’s authoritarian behavior, which included attacking church elders during sermons.
As tensions flared, the congregation collectively decided that the bishop should step down, leading to a service being disrupted and chaos breaking out within the church.
The situation highlights the growing concern among churchgoers about financial accountability and the misuse of church funds by leaders.
