Raila Odinga and President William Ruto’s recent visit to China for the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) was significant for several reasons.
Their trip, in early September 2024, was not only aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between Kenya and China but also marked a strategic push for Raila’s candidacy for the African Union Commission (AUC) chairmanship.
During this high-level summit, President Ruto met with six African heads of state to rally support for Raila’s AUC bid, leveraging the presence of numerous African leaders attending the event.
The discussions also focused on broader African integration and infrastructure development, key aspects of Raila’s vision for the continent.
