A devastating fire engulfed the Mukuru Kwa Njenga Estate near the Muhindi Mweusi area in Nairobi on Monday night, leaving hundreds of residents displaced.
The blaze, which broke out around 9 p.m., destroyed approximately 100 households, forcing families to seek refuge in nearby estates.
The Kenya Red Cross Society was among the first to respond, dispatching a rescue team to assist in the emergency efforts.
“A fire incident has occurred at Mukuru Kwa Njenga, near Muhindi Mweusi in Nairobi County. Our team is on the ground, actively engaging in response efforts alongside community-based disaster response teams,” confirmed the Red Cross in a statement.
Shortly after, the Nairobi Disaster Management Unit and local police arrived at the scene to help contain the fire.
Despite their efforts, videos shared online show residents watching helplessly as the flames consumed their homes.
There were no immediate reports of casualties, but rescue teams worked tirelessly to evacuate those trapped in the inferno.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation as authorities assess the damage.
