In a recent speech, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua made a public plea to President William Ruto, asking him not to let their administration falter, especially in addressing issues like the resurgence of illicit alcohol in the Mt. Kenya region.
Gachagua expressed concern that the government’s efforts to combat the spread of illegal brews were being undermined.
He claimed that despite earlier progress, there had been secret decisions made without his or the president’s knowledge, allowing the return of these harmful substances to the region.
Gachagua emphasized that when the Ruto administration took office, they inherited a region suffering from the devastating effects of alcohol and drug abuse, which were affecting young people.
He had been tasked with leading the fight against illicit brews, a responsibility he took seriously.
Despite early success in this mission, he expressed his frustration that recent developments could undo that progress, urging President Ruto to ensure that these issues are not ignored during their tenure.
His remarks highlight ongoing tensions within the administration, with Gachagua also alluding to a lack of communication among senior officials regarding the authorization of illicit alcohol production.
He appealed to the president not only as a leader but also as a brother, urging him to protect the country’s youth and ensure that the government upholds its commitment to the people of Mt. Kenya.
