Marakwet West MP Timothy Kipchumba has called out Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetangula, criticizing him for what he perceives as biased handling of the impeachment motion against Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Kipchumba likened Wetangula’s actions to that of a “primary school class monitor,” accusing him of taking sides instead of maintaining neutrality as required in such significant matters.
Kipchumba’s remarks came amidst growing tension in parliament, where Gachagua faces impeachment proceedings.
The legislator called for Wetangula to recuse himself, stating that both the Speaker and the Deputy Speaker had shown a bias that could compromise the fairness of the process.
His demand echoed concerns that the Speaker’s role in these proceedings should be impartial to ensure due process for Gachagua.
This outburst adds to the mounting pressure against Gachagua, who has been criticized by some of President William Ruto’s allies for pushing divisive politics and facing isolation even within his own political camp.
