Kimani Ichung’wah, the National Assembly Majority Leader, made bold remarks aimed at Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua during a public address.
Ichung’wah confidently claimed that he had successfully handled challenges when former President Uhuru Kenyatta was in power, and he did not fear Gachagua.
His defiance reflected growing tensions between the two, particularly as Ichung’wah challenged Gachagua’s authority within the Kenya Kwanza government.
The speech highlighted Ichung’wah’s refusal to be intimidated, stating that even Gachagua could not threaten him and that he was prepared to deal with him just as he had with Kenyatta.
This speech came amid a broader political rift within Kenya Kwanza, where Ichung’wah criticized Gachagua’s leadership and questioned his focus on uniting only Mt. Kenya rather than addressing national unity.
The remark signified Ichung’wah’s dissatisfaction with Gachagua’s approach, warning him to focus on the government’s agenda instead of attempting to consolidate power through regional alliances.
Ichung’wah also alluded to the idea that respect must be earned and not demanded, emphasizing his stance against Gachagua’s attempts to exert control.
The fiery exchange indicated ongoing power struggles within the ruling coalition, with Ichung’wah asserting his independence and readiness to challenge the Deputy President.
