Drama erupted in court during the impeachment proceedings against Kenya’s Deputy President, Rigathi Gachagua, when lawyers representing Gachagua and President William Ruto clashed.
The confrontation arose over disagreements about the legal strategies being employed, leading to a heated exchange where one lawyer reportedly shouted, “Shut up, you are saying nonsense!”
Tensions have been high between the two camps, reflecting the deepening rift between Gachagua and Ruto, with the Deputy President fighting accusations of corruption and insubordination
The impeachment motion against Gachagua, initiated by Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse, claims that he undermined the President, particularly over government policies such as eviction plans in Nairobi.
Gachagua has vehemently denied the allegations and insisted that President Ruto’s administration never communicated any dissatisfaction to him directly.
The charges, including corruption and tribalism, have intensified internal divisions within Kenya’s ruling coalition
Amid the legal battle, Gachagua has vowed to fight the impeachment in court and the Senate, refusing to resign and branding the accusations as political propaganda.
The court session saw tensions escalate further when discussions turned to the Deputy President’s role in undermining government policies, a point of contention between his legal team and the President’s representatives.
