Ndindi Nyoro, a Member of Parliament from Kiharu and a close ally of President William Ruto, is facing growing internal scrutiny from Ruto’s supporters who are uncomfortable with his increasing national visibility and rumored ambition.
Recently, some political allies of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua have voiced concerns over Nyoro’s actions, which they see as an attempt to outshine Gachagua as a possible 2027 running mate for Ruto.
Nyoro’s frequent nationwide tours, public engagements, and meetings with key figures in Kenyan politics have intensified speculation that he may be positioning himself as a strong contender within the Kenya Kwanza coalition, potentially disrupting the balance of power between Ruto’s top allies.
Despite the mounting tension, Nyoro has publicly affirmed his loyalty to both Ruto and Gachagua, claiming that he fully supports the Kenya Kwanza leadership team and has no intention of undermining the deputy president.
Nonetheless, his increased presence in various political arenas has raised eyebrows within Ruto’s circle, especially among those in the Mt. Kenya region who are aligned with Gachagua.
These individuals view Nyoro’s activities as a sign of political maneuvering and have called for unity and restraint among leaders to avoid destabilizing the coalition.
In response, allies of Nyoro argue that his actions reflect genuine enthusiasm for supporting Kenya Kwanza’s agenda and promoting development, not a challenge to Gachagua.
They stress the importance of allowing young leaders like Nyoro to connect with the public and address pressing issues without misinterpretations.
Leaders from both sides of this debate have emphasized the need for respect, unity, and a focus on development over political rivalry, hoping to keep internal disagreements from derailing the administration’s priorities.
