In March 2023, during nationwide protests organized by the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition, a group of individuals invaded former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Northlands farm in Ruiru, Kiambu County.
Armed with machetes and other crude weapons, the intruders stole approximately 1,500 Dorper sheep and caused significant property damage, including setting parts of the farm on fire.
Following the incident, some of the stolen sheep were discreetly returned. By mid-April, about 50 sheep had been returned at different times, with individuals citing fear of curses as their motivation.
Some sheep were found abandoned near the farm, while others were dropped off by unidentified individuals.
Former President Kenyatta addressed the theft during a Jubilee Party National Delegates Conference in May 2023.
He expressed his decision to remain silent amid provocations but noted that his restraint had led to abuses, theft of property, and arson. He emphasized that such actions would not intimidate him or the party.
