Rigathi Gachagua Speaks Out on His Whereabouts After Abduction Claims Emerge

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has finally addressed public concern over his whereabouts following dramatic scenes that unfolded at Wairima ACK Church in Othaya.

The incident sparked widespread confusion and fear after chaos erupted just hours before an event he was expected to attend.

In a statement shared on his social media platforms, the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader confirmed that he managed to escape the unrest safely.

Videos circulating online showed teargas canisters being thrown and gunshots being fired, heightening fears among his supporters and the general public.

Gachagua explained that with the help of local residents, his private security team was able to evacuate him from the area. He confirmed that he later arrived safely at his Wamunyoro residence.

“I thank the people of Othaya who stood with me and helped my security team move me to safety. I am now safe and have just arrived at my Wamunyoro home,” Gachagua stated on X, formerly Twitter.

He also appealed for calm, urging thousands of his supporters who had gathered in Othaya Town and Kiawara to return home peacefully. According to him, their vehicles had been vandalized and sound systems destroyed, making it impossible to proceed with planned activities.

His clarification came amid growing claims from sections of the opposition that he may have been abducted during the chaos. These claims quickly spread online, raising alarm across the country.

Doubling down on his earlier remarks, Gachagua accused state agencies of being behind the violence. He alleged that the disruption in Othaya was state-sponsored and carried out by police officers acting under direct instructions from the government.

Shortly after the incident, Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka strongly condemned the events. In a fiery statement, Kalonzo accused President William Ruto and leaders allied to him of orchestrating the attack.

“If anything happens to Rigathi Gachagua, William Ruto, you will not have a country, starting with yourself. Kenya will hold you fully responsible,” Kalonzo warned.

Kiambu Senator Karungo wa Thang’wa, who was also present at the church service, described the situation as terrifying and dangerous.

He alleged that several people were injured during the chaos, including men, women, and children, some of whom reportedly fainted.

According to Karungo, the church was first teargassed with the alleged involvement of police officers.

He further claimed that the doors were locked, trapping worshippers and leaders inside, including Gachagua, popularly known as “Riggy G.” He added that vehicles were set on fire and parts of the church damaged during the melee.

The incident has since intensified political tension, with opposition leaders demanding accountability and clear explanations from the government over the violent disruption of a church service.
