A fire broke out in a dormitory at Cardinal Otunga High School in Mosocho, Kisii County, on Thursday evening, destroying the entire building in a mysterious blaze.
The fire started around 6 p.m., just two days after students had resumed classes following the holiday break.
Firefighters from the Kisii County Government quickly responded to the emergency, working alongside students and local residents to put out the flames.
Despite their efforts, the fire had already caused massive damage to the dormitory by the time it was brought under control.
Videos and photos circulating on social media showed thick smoke billowing from the dormitory as students stood by helplessly, watching the flames engulf the structure.
Some footage captured firefighters actively battling the blaze, though much of the building had already been consumed.
Fortunately, no injuries or fatalities were reported from the incident. School officials, while addressing the media afterward, confirmed that a formal investigation had begun.
The administration suspects the fire might have been caused deliberately and hinted at possible arson.
This unfortunate incident occurred just hours after Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba announced the results for the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams.
