Environment Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has strongly challenged Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka to provide evidence supporting his claims that President William Ruto is plotting to rig the 2027 general elections.
Speaking during the 14th graduation ceremony at Almustaqbal University in Garissa County on Saturday, January 25, Duale dismissed Kalonzo’s allegations as baseless and misleading.
In a fiery rebuttal, the former Defence Cabinet Secretary accused Kalonzo of making unfounded claims that undermine public trust in Kenya’s democratic processes.
He emphasized that the power to elect leaders lies solely in the hands of Kenyan voters and not with the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
“I want to remind Kalonzo that IEBC does not cast votes—Kenyans do. I have been in Parliament since the time you first contested for the presidency. I witnessed your lack of clear direction in 2007 when you couldn’t choose between supporting Raila or Kibaki.
From 2013 to 2022, you were just a running mate. Now, as you prepare to vie for the presidency, tell Kenyans exactly who these mysterious aliens are that you claim President Ruto wants to register as voters,” Duale said.
The CS didn’t stop there. He also took a swipe at former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, whom he criticized for being unfit for office during his tenure.
Duale claimed Gachagua was dismissed for lacking competence and for his alleged involvement in promoting tribal politics.
“We removed him because of his incompetence and tribal mindset. He simply didn’t understand how to govern. I can confidently say this because I served alongside him in the Cabinet,” Duale stated.
Duale further accused Gachagua of dividing the nation through ethnic rhetoric, which he said strained his relationship with President Ruto.
“Every day, all he talks about is tribal politics. He refused to work with President Ruto because the President rejected his divisive approach.
Kenya is one united nation, made up of diverse tribes and religions, and we will continue building it as such,” he added.
Kalonzo, earlier in the week on Wednesday, January 22, made headlines when he accused the Kenya Kwanza administration of plotting to rig the 2027 elections.
Speaking to journalists outside the Wiper Party offices, he alleged that Ruto’s government had started hiring foreigners with the intention of registering them as voters.
“We are concerned that President Ruto’s administration may be planning to register foreigners as voters ahead of the next elections.
We urge transparency and fairness in electoral matters. Every time they claim, ‘We will win,’ we question where they expect these numbers to come from because the majority of Kenyans are united against them,” Kalonzo stated.
Duale’s response marks a sharp escalation in the political rhetoric as both sides position themselves for the next general election, underscoring the growing tensions within Kenya’s political landscape.
