Chaos Erupts at Oscar Sudi’s Event as Goons Disrupt Fundraiser, UDA Leaders Clash
Tension ran high in Uasin Gishu County after a group of goons stormed a fundraiser attended by high-profile leaders, causing a major disruption in front of dignitaries, including governors.
The event, held on Sunday, February 2, at Moi’s Bridge Township, was organized to raise funds for victims of a devastating fire that destroyed property worth millions on Saturday, January 1.
Moi’s Bridge, a well-known cosmopolitan town, lies a few kilometers from Eldoret along the Eldoret-Kitale Highway, near the point where River Nzoia crosses the road leading to Trans Nzoia County.
Among the notable guests in attendance were Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi and Bomet Governor Prof. Hillary Barchok. The fundraiser initially proceeded smoothly, with various leaders addressing the gathering. However, chaos erupted shortly after Soy MP David Kiplagat arrived at the venue.
According to videos obtained by newshub.co.ke, the scuffle began when Kiplagat was introduced, prompting a section of unruly youth to storm the podium in an attempt to disrupt the event.
The situation quickly escalated as dozens of residents surged towards the stage, intensifying the confrontation and creating an atmosphere of hostility.
The disruption threatened to spiral out of control, forcing police officers at the venue to intervene. However, due to the overwhelming number of people engaged in physical altercations, law enforcement struggled to restore order immediately.
While the exact cause of the chaos remains unclear, several UDA leaders present at the event suggested that the group responsible for the disruption was allegedly sponsored by a local political leader.
Oscar Sudi, visibly agitated by the events, strongly condemned the use of young people to incite political divisions. During his speech, he criticized those funding chaos instead of supporting youth empowerment initiatives.
“I am truly shocked. Instead of investing in young people by helping them start businesses, some individuals are giving them money to engage in fights and disrupt public events. We need to move past this outdated style of politics,” Sudi stated.
The outspoken Kapseret legislator also hinted at emerging cracks within the UDA leadership in Uasin Gishu, reaffirming his commitment to supporting residents beyond his constituency.
“As leaders of Uasin Gishu County, we had agreed to stand with all citizens whenever the need arises. My commitment remains unchanged, and I will continue to help those in need, regardless of constituency boundaries,” he emphasized.
The chaotic incident has sparked discussions about growing divisions among political leaders in the region, raising concerns over the state of unity within UDA leadership in Uasin Gishu County.
