Machakos Governor Approves Promotion of Over 1,000 County Workers
Workers in Machakos County can now breathe a sigh of relief after Governor Wavinya Ndeti announced a mass promotion of more than 1,000 county employees.
Speaking on Friday, February 15, during the launch of the County Public Service Policy, Governor Wavinya directed the immediate promotion of 86 employees who are set to retire in 2025.
The policy aims to provide clear guidelines on staff welfare and career growth within the county.
Addressing a large gathering of county workers from different departments, the governor also revealed that her administration is finalizing plans to promote an additional 916 employees whose career advancements had been delayed for nearly a decade.
Governor Wavinya explained that the 916 workers, who have been stuck in the same job groups for the past nine years, will receive their long-awaited promotions starting July 1, 2025.
She emphasized that her administration had developed a comprehensive county human resource policy to address challenges faced by workers, eliminate career stagnation, and introduce fairness in managing the workforce.
“We have employees who are nearing retirement but have remained in the same job group for years. Is that fair? Many workers have gone up to ten years without being promoted, and I have listened to their concerns,” Governor Wavinya stated.
She further declared, “All 86 employees who are set to retire in 2025 will be promoted immediately. Additionally, 916 workers whose promotions had been pending for over seven years will officially be promoted starting July 1, 2025.”
Introduction of Annual Staff Awards
In a move to motivate employees, Governor Wavinya also announced the launch of an annual staff award program to recognize and reward dedicated workers. She assigned the Performance Advisory Committee and the Department of Public Service to oversee the initiative.
“I am pleased to introduce an annual staff award program, which will identify and recognize the best-performing employees in each department,” she stated.
Permanent Jobs for ECDE Teachers and More Promotions
The governor also disclosed plans to offer permanent employment to Early Childhood Development and Education (ECDE) teachers in the county. Additionally, she assured that county workers in the lowest job group, Job Group A, will also be considered for promotions.
Machakos County nurses will start receiving their promotion letters this week, marking another step toward improving the county’s workforce welfare.
Governor Wavinya reaffirmed her commitment to ensuring fairness in staff management and noted that the latest round of promotions accounts for 35% of all eligible county employees.
She assured Machakos residents that her administration will continue working toward a more efficient and motivated county workforce.
