CS Mutua and MP Mutuse Present Seven Key Demands to President Ruto
Labour Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua recently issued a statement following a significant meeting with leaders from the Ukambani region.
The former Machakos County Governor outlined several important issues that were discussed, alongside seven pressing concerns that will be raised with President William Ruto in an upcoming meeting.
Mutua emphasized that their primary goal was to engage with President Ruto on critical matters related to the development of the region. Among the main points of discussion were urgent priorities like improving road infrastructure to enhance connectivity and stimulate economic growth.
The leaders are keen on advocating for these key areas to ensure sustainable development and progress in Ukambani.
During the meeting, it was agreed that the leaders would also bring up several other essential issues, including the improvement of education standards, the provision of adequate water resources, and better electricity coverage across the region. These concerns are seen as fundamental to improving the living conditions of the people in Ukambani.
In addition to these, the leaders discussed the importance of creating more employment opportunities and offering business support to local entrepreneurs. They also highlighted the need for professional appointments to key government positions within the Kenya Kwanza government. These are all matters that the leaders intend to address directly with President Ruto in order to ensure the Ukambani region is not left behind in the country’s development agenda.
Among the key figures present at the meeting was Kibwezi West Member of Parliament, Mwengi Mutuse. Mutuse has been a prominent figure in local politics and was a key player in the successful impeachment of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. His efforts culminated in the motion to remove Gachagua from office, which was passed by the National Assembly and upheld by the Senate on October 17.
Aside from the seven demands to President Ruto, the Kamba leaders also discussed additional issues, including the need for greater accessibility to leadership and empowerment opportunities for the people of Ukambani. This was closely followed by discussions on their region’s broader development priorities.
According to CS Mutua, the values of unity and transparency were central to the discussions, as the leaders stressed the importance of working together for the betterment of their community and country.
Another major point raised was youth empowerment. The leaders have committed to launching mentorship and skills development programs to prepare young people for leadership roles in the future. This commitment is intended to ensure that the next generation of leaders is well-equipped to contribute to national progress.
Furthermore, the leaders unveiled plans for a series of community engagement initiatives, including listening tours across counties with a significant Kamba population. This will involve the three main Ukambani counties—Kitui, Machakos, and Makueni—as well as other areas with a notable Kamba presence, such as Nairobi, Kilifi, Mombasa, Taveta, Embu, and Kwale.
In addition to these outreach efforts, the leaders emphasized their collective goal of strengthening the role of the Kamba community in national development. They believe that the Kamba people must seize available opportunities and position themselves as vital contributors to Kenya’s growth. Their action plan includes ongoing community visits, youth programs, and continuous follow-ups on development initiatives.
Mutua concluded by stating, “The Kamba community is an integral part of Kenya, and we must take a proactive role in national development.
We must harness our potential, seize available opportunities, and position ourselves as key contributors to Kenya’s progress.” Through these efforts, the leaders hope to create lasting, meaningful change for the people of Ukambani and beyond.
