Chaos Erupts as Attackers Injure Police in Assault on Natembeya’s Convoy
Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya’s convoy was ambushed and attacked last night as he was leaving the requiem mass for former Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chairperson Wafula Chebukati.
According to reports, a group of hired goons confronted the governor’s team shortly after he arrived at the venue, leading to a violent altercation that left his driver and two police officers injured.
Witnesses claim that the attackers were linked to the area Member of Parliament, who had already left the event before Natembeya’s arrival.
The mob allegedly trailed the governor’s convoy and launched an aggressive assault, forcing police officers to intervene before the situation escalated further.
“Despite police intervention, Hon. Bisau is accused of orchestrating an ambush by planting youths along the roadside to attack the governor’s entourage. These individuals hurled stones at his vehicle,” read a statement from Natembeya’s office.

During the chaos, Natembeya’s driver and two officers sustained injuries while trying to shield him from harm. Exclusive images obtained by Newshub.co.ke revealed a deep, bloody wound on the driver’s neck, highlighting the intensity of the attack.
In response, Governor Natembeya condemned the violence and urged law enforcement agencies to take swift action against those responsible. He described the incident as a disgraceful and cowardly act aimed at instilling fear.
“It is shameful that Hon. Bisau chose to tarnish a solemn moment of mourning by turning it into a platform for political hostility. Such lawlessness should not be tolerated in our society and must be met with the full force of the law,” Natembeya stated.
He further emphasized that leaders should put aside political differences and uphold respect, especially during occasions meant for unity and reflection.
Despite the attack, Natembeya assured residents that he remained committed to his work and would not be intimidated by such incidents.
In response to the escalating tensions, authorities have deployed heavy security at Chebukati’s funeral in Kiminini, with rigorous screening of attendees to prevent any further disruptions.
This latest attack on the governor comes just a week after he was forced to make a quick exit from the home of former Malava MP Malulu Injendi.
He had visited the residence to pay his last respects but was met with hostility from a rowdy group of youth chanting slogans in support of President William Ruto, prompting his security detail to evacuate him from the scene.
