SK Macharia Reveals How Raila Lost the 2007, 2017 & 2022 Elections

Royal Media Services (RMS) Chairman, SK Macharia, has made shocking claims that former Presidents Mwai Kibaki and Uhuru Kenyatta, along with the current President, William Ruto, manipulated election results to secure victories.

He alleged that opposition leader Raila Odinga was the rightful winner in these elections but was denied victory through electoral fraud.

Macharia, a vocal supporter of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader, stated that Raila Odinga had actually won the highly contested 2007 presidential election.

However, that election ended up being the deadliest in Kenya’s history due to post-election violence.

While speaking at the burial of Colonel (Rtd) James Gitahi in Machakos on Saturday, Macharia claimed that he was abducted and taken to his office, where he was forced to alter the election results in favor of then-President Mwai Kibaki.

“We had the complete data, and it clearly showed that Raila was the winner,” he revealed. “Our figures indicated that Raila had won by a margin of 1.8 million votes.”

Initially, preliminary vote counts showed Raila leading, but as the tallying process progressed, Kibaki overtook him, leading to widespread allegations of vote-rigging.

Macharia recounted the events of that night, saying, “I was taken from my house in the middle of the night. Meanwhile, all returning officers from the Mt Kenya region were detained in a secret location, and their returning forms were seized.”

The media mogul, whose company owns the largest broadcasting network in Kenya in terms of both viewership and listenership, went on to make more startling revelations.

“I was taken to my office, where I found certain individuals whose names I will not disclose. We were forced to change all the figures, and that’s how Kibaki was declared the winner,” he said.

On December 30, 2007, the Electoral Commission of Kenya (ECK), led by Chairman Samuel Kivuitu, announced that Mwai Kibaki had won the election by approximately 232,000 votes.

That same evening, Kibaki was quickly sworn in for a second term, a move that sparked nationwide unrest.
