Former Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza has blamed President William Ruto’s administration for playing a key role in her removal from office.
Speaking to the media on Tuesday evening, Mwangaza alleged that she was impeached because she refused to be controlled by powerful political figures who wanted to use her position for their own selfish interests.
She insisted that her impeachment had nothing to do with legitimate reasons but was a politically motivated move meant to silence her.
According to Mwangaza, her refusal to compromise her values made her a target of political schemes orchestrated by individuals in the current government.
She claimed that her impeachment was manipulated by influential male politicians who took advantage of the system to push her out of office.
“My removal from office was not because of the people’s will. It was a well-planned political move by my rivals, in collaboration with the National Government, to punish me for refusing to be controlled,” Mwangaza stated.
She further defended her leadership, saying she had always remained committed to serving the people of Meru with integrity, transparency, and accountability.
Mwangaza also criticized the Kenya Kwanza government, accusing it of failing to uphold justice and instead working behind the scenes to ensure she was ousted.
She alleged that the administration deliberately ignored the voices of Meru residents who had overwhelmingly elected her.
During the press briefing, Mwangaza vowed to explore all legal options to prove her innocence and expose what she termed as injustices against her.
She called upon Kenyans, civil society groups, and the international community to stand with her and condemn what she described as an abuse of power by the government.
“In the coming days, I will be seeking all legal and constitutional means to fight against this injustice. I will also continue engaging with the people of Meru to ensure their voices are not ignored,” she affirmed.
She expressed her gratitude to Meru residents for their unwavering support and promised to keep fighting for their interests despite her removal from office.
“To the great people of Meru, I deeply appreciate your trust and confidence in my leadership. Your voices matter, and I will not stop fighting for the development and progress of our beloved county,” she assured.
Mwangaza’s statement comes just days after the High Court upheld the Senate’s decision to remove her from office. The court ruled that her impeachment followed the law, dismissing her petition.
On March 14, Justice Bahati Mwamuye stated that the process leading to Mwangaza’s removal adhered to legal procedures, confirming that Parliament had acted within the law.
Despite this ruling, Mwangaza maintains that she was unfairly targeted and vows to continue fighting for justice.
