“My Life Is in Danger” – Gachagua Raises Alarm Over Alleged State Plot

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has claimed that his life is under serious threat, accusing top government officials of planning to eliminate him.

He made the explosive allegations in a detailed statement released on the morning of Tuesday, April 15.

Gachagua pointed fingers directly at the Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja, blaming him for intentionally withdrawing his security team.

He claimed that the State is exposing him to harm by allowing criminal gangs to operate freely without fear of consequences.

In a strongly worded letter, Gachagua wrote:
“Reference is made to the above subject matter for your immediate action and attention regarding my security, that of my family, my supporters, and my property.”

He reminded the IG of his constitutional duty to protect every Kenyan’s life and property, stating, “However, in this case, Mr. Kanja, you are clearly perpetuating crime and violence.”

Gachagua, who was removed from office through impeachment in October 2024, highlighted several troubling incidents he believes are part of a broader plan to harm him.

One of the incidents he referred to was a recent Sunday church service in Mwiki, where things turned chaotic and his personal security had to fire warning shots into the air to disperse an aggressive crowd.

He stressed that the attacks and intimidation tactics seem well-organized and politically motivated. “Your silence is the loudest ever,” he added, accusing the IG of intentionally ignoring the danger he is facing.

In the letter, Gachagua laid out a series of past occurrences that he believes show a consistent pattern of threats against his life.

These include a December 28, 2024 event in Nyandarua, where a teargas canister was thrown during his function, and another confrontation at PCEA Kasarani East Parish on April 6.

The former DP then issued a list of demands addressed to the Inspector General. First, he called for the immediate arrest and prosecution of those behind the acts of violence.

He also insisted that the police provide proper security at every public event he attends, stressing that he is still a national leader who deserves protection.

He further warned against the government’s alleged attempts to disrupt peaceful public meetings and criticized the use of intelligence services to monitor and stalk him.

Gachagua demanded that his private residences and properties also be fully protected.

“Take note of your constitutional establishment under Article 245 of the Constitution of Kenya and more specifically 245(2)(b) on the independent command of the National Police Service,” he stated.

“This is as you dine in the oligarchy and anarchism of the current unpopular regime,” he added, strongly condemning what he views as political bias and negligence from the authorities.

In response to the recent chaos in Mwiki on April 7, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) gave an official explanation about the absence of police officers at the event.

According to the DCI, the local police unit had not been informed that political leaders would be attending the church service.

“The Mwiki police command has stated that the church failed to notify the police of the planned function, which included political leaders, and therefore, no advance security measures were deployed to handle such an eventuality,” the statement from DCI read in part.

Gachagua, however, remains adamant that the pattern of attacks and lack of security point to a larger scheme, one that he claims is being allowed to happen by people in power.

His statement has now put the spotlight on the State’s role in ensuring the safety of all leaders, including those no longer in office.
