Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has made it clear that he will not be silenced by threats or intimidation, no matter how serious they might be.
While speaking during an interview on Sulwe FM on Tuesday, the outspoken governor said he is fully aware that speaking against the government could have serious consequences—even death.
However, he stressed that he will continue to speak his mind and hold the Kenya Kwanza administration accountable.
Natembeya said he believes there are people who have been sent to scare or harm him because of the bold statements he has made. Despite this, he insisted that he will not back down.
“I know by speaking the truth, they might send people after me. They might even plan to kill me. Mr. President, I am not afraid.
You can kill me if you want—whether I die today or tomorrow, it doesn’t matter. What matters is that I spoke the truth,” Natembeya declared fearlessly.
He went on to claim that some individuals have been hired to monitor his movements, stir up residents against him, and create situations where he could be provoked—all because he refuses to join others in blindly praising President William Ruto.
“If I’ve done anything wrong, let them confront me directly. Having people follow me like I’m a criminal shows that there’s no real freedom in this country anymore.
It now seems that if you’re not clapping for the president, then you must be against the country. I will never accept that way of thinking,” Natembeya said strongly.
The governor also raised concerns about the overall direction the country is taking. According to him, his remarks are simply meant to give constructive criticism and help the government make better decisions.
“If the way Kenya is being governed doesn’t change, they should expect some serious changes soon. We are simply giving our honest feedback.
Whether they take it positively or ignore it, that’s up to them. But we’re speaking out because we care about this country,” he added.
Governor Natembeya has consistently spoken out against the Kenya Kwanza government, especially about how the administration is managing governance and development projects in the Western region of Kenya.
He has also strongly condemned the reported forced disappearances of young people, blaming it on government leaders who he says cannot stand opposing views.
His courage to speak out has caused a stir in the political arena. Leaders who support the Kenya Kwanza government have accused him of creating ethnic divisions and resisting development efforts.
Among them is Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei, who recently threatened to initiate an impeachment motion against Natembeya within the next six months.
In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday, Cherargei said, “Your tribal hate speech must end in six months or we will remove you for promoting division among communities.”
Despite the pressure, Natembeya remains firm in his stance, saying his voice will not be silenced and that he is ready to face any consequences for standing up for what he believes is right for Kenyans.
