Survivor of Gen Ogolla Chopper Crash Seen with President Ruto, Sparks Online Debate

Frankford Karanja Mogire, a Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) photographer and one of the few survivors of the tragic helicopter crash that killed former Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) General Francis Ogolla, has finally reappeared in public — a year after the heartbreaking incident.

His reappearance has stirred mixed reactions online, especially after he was seen performing his official duties alongside President William Ruto.

One image that caught the attention of many Kenyans showed Mogire, dressed in a well-fitted suit, capturing photos of the president during an event.

This led some online users to speculate and raise questions about his presence next to Ruto.

“The cameraman is the one who survived the chopper crash that killed CDF Ogolla. If you still believe in coincidences, then you’re not paying attention,” one Kenyan remarked online, fueling conversations and theories on social media.

In the pictures shared by President Ruto himself, Mogire is seen actively doing his job — carrying one camera in hand and another strapped to his side.

The images were taken during the president’s unveiling of a commemorative plaque at the Lanet Regional Hospital, located within the Kenya Military Academy in Nakuru County.

Although some Kenyans expressed surprise and curiosity about Mogire’s close proximity to the president, it was actually expected.

As an official KDF photographer, it is part of his job to document military activities and important national events — especially those led by the head of state.

Since the function was organized by the KDF, Mogire’s presence was entirely normal and in line with his professional duties.

Frankford Mogire is a graduate of Mount Kenya University, but not much else is publicly known about his personal background. Still, many Kenyans were pleased to see him alive, healthy, and back at work after surviving such a horrific crash.

“KDF photographer Frankford Mogire, one of the few survivors of the crash that took the life of General Ogolla, is now back to work.

We thank God for saving his life,” a Kenyan wrote on social media in response to the recent images.

The crash occurred on April 18, 2024, in Sindar village, located in Elgeyo Marakwet County. A report released that same month revealed that the KDF helicopter suffered a critical engine malfunction, which caused a total loss of power while airborne.

The tragic accident led to the loss of General Francis Ogolla and nine others who were onboard. Mogire’s survival was one of the few bright spots in an otherwise dark and painful moment for the country.
