Natembeya Fires Back at Cherargei

Natembeya Fires Back at Cherargei Over Trans Nzoia Criticism

Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has strongly hit back at Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei, telling him to mind his own county’s issues instead of interfering in the affairs of Trans Nzoia.

During a recent interview on NTV, Natembeya accused Cherargei of attacking his leadership unfairly and advised the senator to focus on solving problems in Nandi County.

The governor pointed out that Cherargei has his own political battles at home, which he should prioritize before commenting on the affairs of another county.

“I really don’t understand why a senator from Nandi County is so concerned with what’s happening in Trans Nzoia.

Cherargei should concentrate on his county. We all know he doesn’t get along with his own governor.

Just the other day, he had a public spat with Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, and they even dragged each other to court,” Natembeya stated.

His remarks came in response to accusations made by Cherargei, who had earlier labeled him a tribal leader and questioned the working relationship between Natembeya and his deputy governor.

Cherargei claimed the two leaders were no longer working together and alleged that Natembeya’s leadership was sowing division.

“There is clear tension between the governor and his deputy. The county is returning to its old problems.

These issues are being caused by his tribal tendencies. I can assure you, in six months, Natembeya will be out of office,” Cherargei had said.

However, Natembeya dismissed these claims as false and without any evidence. He strongly defended his administration, saying it was among the most inclusive and gender-balanced not only in Trans Nzoia but across all counties in Kenya.

He outrightly denied any division between him and his deputy, saying they continue to work together smoothly. Natembeya also criticized Cherargei for promoting tribal politics, calling it a dangerous path that could destroy the unity of the country.

The governor did not shy away from addressing the impeachment threats raised by the senator. He challenged Cherargei to go ahead with the impeachment process if he was serious.

Natembeya maintained that he had nothing to fear since he enjoys a healthy working relationship with Members of the County Assembly (MCAs).

“Impeachment is a serious constitutional process. It’s not meant to be used as a tool to scare or silence elected leaders.

If you think you have a case, then bring it on. But don’t misuse impeachment for political games,” Natembeya warned.

He also linked the current attacks against him to his previous role as the Regional Commissioner for the Rift Valley, particularly during the Mau Forest evictions.

Natembeya claimed that some leaders still hold a grudge against him because of the firm decisions he made back then.

“I strongly believe that the bitterness some of these leaders have towards me started during my time as the Rift Valley regional commander. I led the mission to remove people who had illegally settled in the Mau Forest.

Many leaders from the affected communities called me and begged me to stop the evictions, and some even threatened me. But I didn’t back down — I followed the law. That’s why they’re targeting me today,” Natembeya explained.

He concluded by calling on leaders to stop playing divisive politics and instead focus on serving the people and promoting peace and unity across the country.
