Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka is standing firm on his claims that the death of Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) General Francis Ogolla was not accidental.
Speaking on Thursday, Kalonzo challenged the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to summon him so he can provide evidence, insisting he is more than ready to record a statement.
Despite the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) releasing a postmortem report suggesting mechanical failure, Kalonzo dismissed it and called for an independent commission to thoroughly investigate the crash.
He questioned why a high-ranking military officer like General Ogolla was sent to inspect a primary school, hinting at possible foul play.
“Tell DCI Amin to summon me right now; I will walk to their offices with the entire Gen Z generation across Kenya because the questions we are asking are very basic. It is not the CDF’s job to inspect a primary school,” Kalonzo boldly declared.
Kalonzo was critical of the official report, which pointed to mechanical issues as the cause of the crash that killed Ogolla and 10 others.
He argued that individuals at such high levels of national security—like the President and the CDF—are some of the most protected in the country.
Therefore, a simple mechanical failure leading to the death of the CDF is either gross negligence or deliberate foul play.
“I want to remind everyone that the President and the CDF are among the most protected individuals in this country.
To allow a helicopter carrying the CDF to crash is not just negligence; it is criminal negligence. We cannot accept excuses for this,” Kalonzo emphasized.
He further stated that there had been known efforts to remove General Ogolla from his position due to his involvement in the National Security Council.
This, he said, strengthens the need for an independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding Ogolla’s death.
The Ministry of Defence recently released a report attributing the April 18, 2024, helicopter crash in Elgeyo Marakwet County to engine failure.
The report indicated that the Bell Huey helicopter experienced a sudden engine surge, followed by a complete power loss, which led to the fatal crash.
Witnesses reported hearing a loud bang from the engine before the helicopter lost power, which aligned with the technical findings in the report.
However, Kalonzo remains unconvinced, insisting that only a transparent and independent inquiry can provide the answers Kenyans deserve.
As the political tension around the tragic incident continues to build, many are now waiting to see whether the DCI will indeed summon Kalonzo, and if an independent investigation will be launched to uncover the full truth.
