KDF Officer in Custody After Tragic Night Out in Kitengela
A Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officer is currently being held at the Kitengela Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) offices following a tragic incident that led to the death of his girlfriend.
The officer, who is attached to the Defence Forces Constabulary at Kahawa Garrison, had reportedly visited his lover at her rented apartment in Kitengela over the weekend.
What was meant to be a romantic visit ended in tragedy after the young woman developed breathing problems during their time together.
According to a police report, the 24-year-old woman suddenly experienced difficulty in breathing around 11 pm. Moments later, she lost consciousness.
Alarmed, the soldier immediately raised the alarm, prompting the building’s caretaker to respond quickly to the emergency.
In a state of panic, the soldier sought help from a neighbour who owned a car. Together, they rushed the unconscious woman to a nearby health facility in Kitengela.
Sadly, medical staff at the hospital confirmed that the woman had already passed away before arriving at the facility.
Preliminary findings from the investigation revealed that the woman had no visible external injuries. However, investigators noted the presence of blood in her genital area, raising further questions about the circumstances leading to her death.
Medical staff at the hospital advised the soldier and the neighbour to formally report the incident to the police.
However, instead of complying, the soldier claimed he needed to make a call for assistance. Moments later, he fled the hospital by jumping over its gate.
Later that night, the soldier returned to his military base and surrendered himself to the military police.
He reportedly told his superiors that he ran away out of fear, overwhelmed by the shock and possible consequences of his girlfriend’s sudden death.
The military police detained him in a guard room before handing him over to the Kitengela DCI officers on Saturday afternoon, where he is now being held as investigations continue.
Isinya Sub-County Police Commander Patrick Manyasi confirmed the incident to the media. He stated that authorities are awaiting the results of a postmortem examination to determine the exact cause of death before deciding on the next course of action.
“We have to wait for the doctor’s report before we can proceed. The postmortem is scheduled for Monday next week. After that, we will determine the steps to take,” said Manyasi.
The body of the deceased woman is currently preserved at the Shalom Community Hospital mortuary as the investigation into the heartbreaking incident continues.
