Farouk Kibet Attacks Uhuru Kenyatta Over Retirement Benefits and Political Influence

Farouk Kibet, an aide to President William Ruto, has launched a fresh attack on former President Uhuru Kenyatta, urging Parliament to strip him of his retirement benefits.

Speaking in Vihiga, Kibet accused Uhuru of continuing to practice divisive politics despite stepping down from the presidency after completing his two terms in office.

Kibet took aim at the former leader, questioning what legacy Uhuru left behind at State House. He went on to suggest that retired political figures, especially former Heads of State, should have their benefits redirected to the people once they exit the political scene.

“What did the former president leave behind at the State House? Is there anything of value?” Kibet questioned. He then called on Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah to introduce a motion in Parliament to ensure that former leaders’ retirement benefits are given back to the public.

Uhuru Kenyatta, since stepping down, has attempted to remain neutral in Kenyan politics, even maintaining a seemingly positive relationship with his former deputy, now President William Ruto.

Despite this, he has not been shy about expressing subtle criticisms of the current government, which has sparked frustration among members of the Kenya Kwanza coalition.

Earlier this year, Uhuru stirred controversy when he supported the United States’ decision to reduce donor funding, advocating for third-world nations to develop self-sustaining mechanisms.

He also made headlines during a speech at the Second Annual Guild Leaders’ Summit 2025 at Makerere University, where he urged the younger generation to stand up against poor governance.

Since these remarks, Uhuru has faced increasing backlash from Kenya Kwanza supporters, with Farouk Kibet being one of his most vocal critics.

Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale also weighed in, calling on the former president to refrain from criticizing the current government, emphasizing that Uhuru, having been in power for ten years, should understand the challenges of governance.

“We gave you the chance to lead for ten years, and we didn’t oppose you, we allowed you to rule. Now, please follow the example of your predecessors and allow President William Ruto to govern,” Duale stated, urging Uhuru to step back from publicly commenting on government affairs.
