How the Bodaboda Rider Who Helped MP Were’s Killers Was Finally Caught
The motorcycle rider who ferried the killers of Kasipul Member of Parliament Charles Ong’ondo Were has finally been arrested.
Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) tracked him down and apprehended him in the Kibera Darajani area after conducting a thorough intelligence-led operation.
This arrest came after a detailed investigation that forensically linked the suspect to the key individuals involved in the assassination. Evidence also placed him at the scene of the crime on the day the MP was murdered.
According to the investigators, the man operated the Bajaj Boxer motorcycle that was used by the assailants to follow MP Were’s vehicle. After the killing, the same motorcycle was used as a getaway means to help the killers escape.
When the suspect was finally caught, he was found in possession of the same motorcycle that was captured on CCTV trailing the MP’s car.
The CCTV footage, recorded near Parliament, clearly showed a motorcycle matching the one the suspect was riding at the time of the murder.
Police reports indicate that the rider is not new to crime. He is described as a repeat offender who has previously been on the run for other criminal activities.
In fact, during interrogation, the suspect confessed to being hired for the job and said he was paid Ksh 50,000 to help track the MP and transport the killers.
DCI officers said in a statement, “Our investigations established that the man is a known criminal who often disguises himself as a bodaboda operator. He usually works with armed criminal gangs and plays a key role in their operations.”
The statement further added that the rider admitted his involvement in the MP’s killing and gave crucial details about how he was contacted by the masterminds behind the murder.
He confessed that his role was to monitor the MP’s movements and help the killers follow and flee the scene quickly.
The probe also revealed that the suspect has a long criminal record. He once served time at the Industrial Area Prison, where he is believed to have met and formed ties with some of the other suspects involved in this brutal attack.
He is now in police custody and being prepared for arraignment in court. Investigations are still ongoing as authorities work to bring all those involved to justice and uncover the full details behind the planning and execution of the murder.
MP Charles Ong’ondo Were was killed on the evening of April 30 in what police have confirmed was a planned and targeted assassination.
Witnesses and law enforcement officials said the MP was attacked near the City Mortuary roundabout on Ngong Road while driving. The tragic incident shocked the nation and sparked widespread calls for justice.
