MCAs File Motion to Impeach Another Governor

Isiolo MCAs File Motion to Impeach Governor Abdi Guyo Over Misuse of Office

Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) in Isiolo have taken steps to remove Governor Abdi Guyo from office, citing serious allegations that include abuse of office, mismanagement of public resources, and illegal hiring practices.

The impeachment motion was officially submitted by Sericho MCA Abubakar Godana and has received overwhelming support. Out of the total assembly members, 17 MCAs have already signed in favour of the motion.

Interestingly, even several MCAs who are politically aligned with Governor Guyo have thrown their weight behind the impeachment process. The motion was presented on Monday, June 9, and is scheduled for official reading on Tuesday, June 17.

According to a copy of the motion seen by Newshub.co.ke, Governor Guyo is accused of misusing public funds and making illegal appointments within the county government.

These issues have reportedly plagued his administration since 2024, when friction began mounting between the county leadership and national oversight institutions over the governor’s handling of county affairs.

One of the most notable incidents that has attracted criticism is Governor Guyo’s repeated failure to appear before the Senate Standing Committee on Health.

Despite being summoned twice to answer pressing questions about the county’s healthcare issues, the governor failed to show up, raising concerns about transparency and accountability.

Another key issue that has drawn attention is the governor’s controversial hiring practices. The Senate County Public Accounts Committee, led by Homa Bay Senator Moses Kajwang, raised red flags after discovering that Governor Guyo had hired 36 advisors—despite the law only permitting four such appointments. The Senate committee termed this a significant misuse of public resources.

In addition to that, Guyo is accused of unlawfully appointing two Deputy County Secretaries, which is a clear violation of legal provisions that allow for only one person in that position. These actions have further fueled concerns about the integrity and legality of his governance.

Most recently, Governor Guyo found himself at the centre of a new political storm following remarks he made against Isiolo Senator Fatuma Dullo.

During the Madaraka Day Celebrations held in the county, the governor accused Senator Dullo of extravagant spending and questioned her personal relationships.

He also implied that the Senator was misusing public funds to maintain a lavish lifestyle. These controversial comments came after Senator Dullo had requested development funds to be allocated to her office.

The backlash following these remarks added to the already growing list of issues haunting the governor, further tarnishing his image in the eyes of both the public and political leaders within the county.

With the impeachment motion set to be heard soon, the coming days are expected to be politically tense in Isiolo as the county assembly decides the fate of Governor Abdi Guyo.
