Kilifi Governor Gideon Mung’aro Mourns Father’s Death on Father’s Day
Kilifi Governor Gideon Mung’aro is going through a tough time after the sad loss of his father, who passed away on June 15, a day the world sets aside to honour and celebrate fathers.
The governor shared the heartbreaking news through his official social media pages on Sunday, expressing deep sorrow over the timing of the loss, saying it made the moment even more emotional and painful.
“Today, on Father’s Day, I lost my father. This is a deeply painful time for me, but I remain grateful for the love, support, and prayers that my family and I have received from relatives, friends, and fellow Kenyans.
Your kindness and comfort mean so much to us as we try to get through this difficult moment. Thank you all from the depths of my heart,” Governor Mung’aro posted.
His message quickly drew attention and led to a flood of condolences from Kenyans across the country.
Leaders from various political sides, as well as members of the public, sent their sympathies to the governor and his family, acknowledging how devastating it must be to lose one’s father on a day meant to honour fatherhood.
Shortly after the announcement, the governor shared photos of himself and some close associates at the Kilifi County Hospital Funeral Home, where the body of his late father is currently being preserved. The images painted a somber mood, showing the reality of the difficult time he and his family are facing.
As of now, the family has not released any information about the cause of death or the funeral arrangements. Many are awaiting further communication on the burial plans and tributes that may follow.
Meanwhile, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party, which sponsored Mung’aro’s successful bid for the Kilifi gubernatorial seat, issued an emotional condolence message to the governor and his family. The party paid tribute to the late elder Mung’aro, describing him as a man who left a lasting legacy.
“On this Father’s Day, a great man has rested. Ex-Chief Gideon Baya Mung’aro, a respected leader and a man who played a major role in shaping modern-day Malindi and Dabaso, is no longer with us,” ODM said in their statement.
“To our friend and comrade, Governor Gideon Mung’aro, to the entire Mung’aro family, and to the people of Kilifi County, we send our deepest condolences. Poleni sana for the loss,” the message concluded.
The entire Kilifi community and the nation at large continue to stand with the governor and his family during this painful period, remembering and honouring the life of a father, a leader, and a man who helped build his community.
