Police Officer Among Three Killed in High-Speed Crash in Kinangop, Several Others Injured
A tragic road accident claimed three lives, including that of a police officer, early Sunday morning at Slopes Villa area in Kinangop, Nyandarua County.
The deadly crash involved a police vehicle and a double-cabin pickup and happened while the officers were responding to another accident in the same area.
According to reports, the police officers were rushing to the scene of a separate road incident when their vehicle, which was allegedly speeding, collided head-on with the pickup truck.
The impact of the crash was severe, leading to the immediate deaths of three individuals — a police officer and two civilians.
The Motorists Association released a statement confirming that the police vehicle was speeding at the time of the accident.
They added that both vehicles were extensively damaged, and several passengers from each were badly hurt. The injured were quickly taken to nearby hospitals for urgent medical treatment.
“The police officers were responding to another emergency when their speeding vehicle crashed into the pickup truck. Sadly, the collision resulted in the loss of three lives on the spot, including one police officer and a civilian,” read the statement from the association.
They further emphasized that this unfortunate event highlights the serious risks faced by emergency service personnel and the ongoing need for improved road safety measures. “It’s a painful reminder of the dangers that first responders encounter daily.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and send our best wishes for a quick recovery to those who were injured,” the statement added.
This is not the first incident involving police vehicles and fatal crashes. On June 3, several police officers died in a similar accident when their patrol car collided with a trailer at Matisi, along the Bungoma-Webuye Highway.
In that crash, the two vehicles smashed head-on, leaving the police vehicle completely destroyed and resulting in the deaths of multiple officers.
These recent incidents underline the importance of enforcing speed regulations, even in emergencies, and ensuring that road safety remains a top priority for all road users — including those in uniform.
