Tragic School Bus Accident Claims Teacher’s Life, Injures Several Students in Mombasa
A heartbreaking road accident on the evening of Thursday, July 3, has left the Mikindani Primary School community in mourning after one of their teachers tragically lost her life.
The accident occurred in the Maasai area along the Taita Taveta-Mombasa highway in Mombasa County.
The teacher was accompanying a group of students on their way back from a regional music and drama festival held at Kenyatta High School.
They had proudly represented their school during the cultural event and were returning home when the tragic incident happened.
The accident resulted in the death of the teacher and left two students with serious injuries. Ten other students sustained minor injuries during the crash.
Emergency responders rushed the injured to Mikindani Medical Centre, where doctors later confirmed that eight of the injured were in stable condition.
Jomvu Member of Parliament Badi Twalib confirmed the incident and expressed deep sorrow over the tragic loss of the teacher.
He personally met with the affected families and assured them of his support. Twalib promised to continue working with the school to provide help, including counseling and emotional support for those traumatized by the event.
“I am truly heartbroken by the loss of the teacher and the injuries suffered by our children,” said the MP. “We will stand by the families and the school community through this difficult time.”
Mikindani Ward Member of County Assembly (MCA) Jactone Madialo also visited the school on the night of Thursday, July 4, to meet with worried parents and offer his condolences.
He confirmed the details of the accident and reassured the families that everything possible was being done to help the injured and support the grieving.
“A school bus carrying pupils and their teachers from Mikindani Primary was involved in an accident, resulting in the unfortunate death of a teacher and injuries to some of the students,” Madialo stated. “This evening, I went to the school and spoke with concerned parents who are understandably very anxious.”
The MCA added that medical professionals at Mikindani confirmed most of the students were doing well, and the remaining pupils involved in the incident were expected to arrive back safely by the following morning.
“Let us pray for comfort and peace for the family, friends, and colleagues of the teacher we lost,” Madialo said. “We also wish a speedy recovery to all the injured students.”
The accident comes just as schools reopened after the midterm break, turning what should have been a joyful return from a successful event into a time of grief and concern for the Mikindani Primary School community.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the accident, while counseling services and community support are being arranged to help those affected cope with the aftermath.
