Education PS Julius Bitok Demands Arrest of Alliance Girls Teacher Over Alleged Sexual Abuse

Principal Secretary for Basic Education, Julius Bitok, has announced firm plans to arrest and take disciplinary action against a teacher from Alliance Girls High School accused of sexually exploiting students.

The teacher, who has been at the school for many years, reportedly used his position of authority to groom vulnerable learners and engage in inappropriate behavior.

Speaking during a Thanksgiving event at Kapkoros Barngetuny Secondary School in Nandi County, Bitok confirmed that the Ministry of Education is working hand in hand with law enforcement and the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to ensure the immediate arrest and interdiction of the teacher in question.

“That teacher will face the full force of the law. We’ve already spoken with TSC and all relevant authorities to ensure he is arrested and punished,” Bitok declared.

The PS’s remarks come in the wake of a shocking investigative report released earlier in the week by Africa Uncensored. The report revealed troubling accusations from both former and current students of Alliance Girls High School.

According to the investigation, the male teacher, who also served as the leader of the school’s Christian Union, allegedly built emotionally manipulative relationships with students that ultimately led to non-consensual physical contact. Some of the reported incidents allegedly occurred outside the school compound.

The report caused an uproar nationwide, triggering swift responses from civil society and education stakeholders. Bitok, while addressing the issue, strongly condemned the teacher’s alleged actions and made it clear that the government would not tolerate any form of sexual abuse in schools.

“We are not going to tolerate any conduct where teachers or any other individuals in the school environment take advantage of our children,” Bitok emphasized.

“We condemn in the strongest terms possible any form of exploitation or abuse of students. Teachers and school staff are entrusted with the care and protection of learners—not to harm or manipulate them. The government will not sit back and watch this happen.”

The PS further pointed out that such cases are not limited to Alliance Girls High School. He vowed that the government would intensify investigations and take tough action against any teacher found guilty of similar misconduct in other schools. According to him, protecting learners from abuse is a top priority.

The Ministry’s response followed mounting public pressure after the report went viral, leading to calls for justice from rights organizations and members of the public. One of the most vocal advocates was the Federation of Women Lawyers in Kenya (FIDA-Kenya), which issued a strong statement urging the government to hold the school’s administration accountable for allegedly failing to protect the students.

“We demand that the Ministry of Education ensure accountability from the school leadership and take both disciplinary and legal action against those who enabled or overlooked this abuse,” said Christine Kungu, Chairperson of FIDA-Kenya, in a press release dated July 8.

FIDA also appealed to the Ministry to issue a directive to all schools requiring them to set up clear systems for identifying, reporting, and responding to cases of sexual and gender-based violence within educational institutions.

In a separate show of support for the victims and a demand for justice, a group of former students from Alliance Girls staged a peaceful protest on Thursday morning. The protestors carried placards and expressed their anger and disappointment, urging the Ministry of Education to take swift action.

The case has once again raised serious concerns about student safety and the responsibility of schools in creating secure environments for learners.

Education PS Bitok made it clear that any teacher who preys on students will not be shielded and that the government is committed to protecting children in schools across the country.
