Five Staff Members at Another Top Kenyan School Accused of Sexual Misconduct

Just two days after former students of Alliance Girls High School held protests over sexual abuse allegations, another top institution, Loreto High School in Limuru, is facing similar claims.

On Friday, July 11, the Loreto Limuru Alumni Association released a statement raising serious concerns about reports of sexual abuse involving some teachers at the school.

The alarming issue came to light during a recent Board of Management (BOM) meeting where two alumni attended and directly accused five staff members of sexually grooming female students.

In response to the serious allegations, the school’s administration confirmed that they have already started investigating the matter.

They stated that the implicated staff have been summoned and that disciplinary action will follow through the Teachers’ Service Commission (TSC) to ensure that justice is served for all the victims.

During the BOM meeting, members agreed on additional measures to collect information about such incidents. One key step is placing more suggestion boxes in different parts of the school to encourage students to come forward with any useful information in a safe and private way.

The Alumni Association urged anyone who has experienced inappropriate behavior from the accused staff to submit their accounts so that the matter can be handled with the seriousness it deserves. They stressed the need to hold the perpetrators fully accountable.

In addition to pushing for speedy investigations, the alumni group also highlighted the need to offer mental health and emotional support to the students who may have been affected by these traumatic experiences.

They emphasized the importance of working closely with both the Board of Management and the Parents’ Association to ensure no offender escapes justice.

This new development comes just days after Alliance Girls High School faced national attention following protests by its former students.

On Thursday, July 10, a large group of alumni demonstrated outside the school, accusing a male teacher of sexually abusing students over a period of time. Despite the presence of heavy police security, the protestors remained firm in demanding justice.

The demonstrators also blamed the Teachers’ Service Commission for failing to act on a complaint letter they had earlier submitted, calling for the immediate disciplinary action against the accused teacher.

Following the protests, Education Principal Secretary Julius Bitok addressed the situation, promising immediate action. He ordered the arrest and interdiction of the teacher involved in the Alliance Girls scandal and assured that the TSC and other education stakeholders had been engaged to ensure the matter is fully investigated.

“That teacher will be punished and interdicted. We’ve spoken with TSC and all concerned parties to make sure he gets arrested,” Bitok said firmly.

The back-to-back revelations have sparked national concern over the safety of students in some of Kenya’s top learning institutions. Alumni groups, education officials, and parents are now pushing for stricter oversight and faster responses to such sensitive cases to protect learners from further harm.
