Gachagua Sends Message to Samidoh During US Visit: Focus on Music, Not Politics

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has urged celebrated Mugithi star Samidoh Muchoki to concentrate on his music career and avoid being drawn into the murky waters of politics.

Speaking while on a visit to the United States, Gachagua cautioned Samidoh and other artists from the Mt. Kenya region not to allow politicians to use them as tools to promote political agendas. He warned that musicians are being targeted by leaders who want to use their popularity to sway public opinion.

“The other day, I saw some of our artists in Karen being told to sing to Kenyans that SHA is working. Let me tell you, stick to your music. Your job is to make us happy with your songs so we can sleep in peace. Don’t allow yourself to be used by politicians,” Gachagua advised, directing his remarks specifically to Samidoh and his fellow musicians.

“Samidoh, avoid falling into that trap. Kenyans are too smart to be fooled, not even by musicians. Those days are long gone,” he added firmly.

Gachagua’s comments come in the wake of a May meeting where Deputy President Kithure Kindiki hosted several Mt. Kenya artists at his official residence in Karen. Those in attendance included Samidoh Muchoki, Ben Githae, Karangu Muraya, Jose Gatutura, DJ Fatxo, Sammy Irungu, Martin Wajanet, and Ngaruiya Junior, among others.

Though Gachagua has long been a fan of Mt. Kenya Mugithi music and has enjoyed a warm relationship with Samidoh, their bond appears to have weakened after the musician and others honored Kindiki’s invitation.

Following the visit, Gachagua even encouraged people from the Mt. Kenya region to unfollow those musicians on social media, accusing them of turning their backs on the community and siding with the Kenya Kwanza administration.

His advice to Samidoh also comes at a time when the artist is battling a difficult situation in his other profession as a police officer. In June, the National Police Service (NPS) issued a directive for Samidoh’s arrest, citing that he had deserted his duties.

According to NPS sources, Samidoh failed to report to his new assignment at the Anti-Stock Theft Unit (ASTU) in Gilgil since his redeployment on May 27, 2025. His prolonged absence, which extended for over 10 days, led to disciplinary action, including suspension of his salary. Despite this, Samidoh has remained in the U.S., where he is currently on a music tour.

Meanwhile, Gachagua, who now leads the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), is also in the United States for a political outreach tour. He is rallying support for his Wantam agenda, which positions itself in opposition to the Kenya Kwanza government led by President William Ruto.

Gachagua’s message to Samidoh was clear: stay focused on music, entertain the people, and avoid the trap of political influence, especially during times of heightened political tension in the country.
