The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has announced a significant increase in fuel prices for the period running from July 15 to August 14, 2025. This latest adjustment affects the prices of Super Petrol, Diesel, and Kerosene, which have all gone up sharply.
According to EPRA’s latest fuel price review, Super Petrol will now cost Ksh186.31 per litre after a rise of Ksh8.99. Diesel will be sold at Ksh171.58 per litre, reflecting an increase of Ksh8.67. Meanwhile, kerosene users will pay Ksh156.58 per litre, following a rise of Ksh9.65.
The revised prices take effect starting Monday, July 15, and will remain in place until Thursday, August 14. EPRA stated that the new rates are the result of their routine monthly pricing review, which takes into account global oil prices, exchange rates, shipping costs, and other factors affecting petroleum imports.
EPRA emphasized that these adjustments have been made in accordance with the provisions outlined under Section 101(y) of the Petroleum Act 2019, as well as Legal Notice No.192 of 2022. The prices set are the maximum retail rates that petrol stations across the country are allowed to charge.
Furthermore, the authority explained that the prices include the 16% Value Added Tax (VAT), as required under the Finance Act 2023 and the recent amendments introduced by the Tax Laws (Amendment) Act 2024. Additionally, the excise duty applied to fuel has been revised to reflect adjustments for inflation, as indicated in Legal Notice No.194 of 2020.
This price hike is expected to impact the cost of transportation and the general cost of living, as fuel is a key driver of economic activity in the country.
Kenyans are now bracing for a potential increase in the prices of essential goods and services due to the higher fuel costs.
