Naivasha MP Jayne Kihara has been brought to the Milimani Law Courts following her dramatic arrest, according to her lawyer, Ndegwa Njiru.
In an update shared on Friday, July 18, Njiru stated that the MP arrived at the courthouse at around 7 a.m., but surprisingly, she wasn’t taken inside the courtroom. Instead, she was kept waiting for hours in the court’s parking area.
Njiru further claimed that the MP was never officially booked into the Milimani holding cells. In a shocking twist, at around 8:20 a.m., Kihara was reportedly hurried into a green Subaru and driven off to an unknown destination, leaving her legal team confused and frustrated. “She was whisked away to an unknown place, and we are now stranded,” said Njiru.
Kihara, who has been sharing updates through livestreams on her Facebook page, confirmed that she was again taken back to Milimani Law Courts later. Her lawyers, including Ndegwa Njiru and Kalonzo, appeared in the livestream, revealing that authorities were still trying to figure out what charges to file against her.
The MP was dramatically arrested on Thursday after she failed to appear before officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI). A livestream video captured the tense moment when DCI detectives stormed her home in the Maraigushu area and took her into custody.
The arrest stirred widespread reactions, with both the public and political leaders expressing outrage. Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga strongly condemned the manner in which the elderly MP was handled, noting that she is 72 years old and relies on an orthopedic support belt.
“It is painful to witness such humiliation being done to a leader who once stood with the very government now tormenting her,” he said.
Despite the tension, lawyer Kalonzo maintained that their mission remains clear—pushing to remove President William Ruto from power. Kihara is known to be a close ally of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who has recently been vocal in opposing the current Kenya Kwanza administration.
