Kitui East Member of Parliament (MP) Nimrod Mbai, who is affiliated with the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), is in mourning after losing his mother, Dorcas Kanini Mbai, in a tragic road accident that occurred on Sunday evening.
The heartbreaking incident took place at Kithimani, a busy area along the Thika-Garissa Highway in Machakos County. The MP shared the sorrowful news with the public through a deeply emotional message, expressing the immense grief his family is currently going through.
“With a heavy heart, I share the devastating news that I have lost my dear mother, Dorcas Kanini Mbai, following a tragic road accident at Kithimani along the Nairobi-Garissa Highway in Machakos County,” the legislator posted.
He went on to add, “The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away. Rest well, Mama. Words cannot express how much you were loved and how deeply you’ll be missed. May your soul rest in perfect peace. Go well, my beloved Mum.”
Leaders and colleagues from across the political spectrum have been sending in their heartfelt condolences to the MP and his grieving family.
Among them was Mwala MP Vincent Kawaya, who paid tribute to the late Dorcas, describing her as a woman of dignity, strength, and kindness. “I am heartbroken to learn of the sudden passing of Mama Dorcas Mbithuka, the mother of my colleague Hon.
Nimrod Mbai. I extend my deepest sympathies to the family and the people of Kitui East during this difficult moment,” Kawaya said in his condolence message.
Preparations for the burial are currently in progress, and the family is expected to release the funeral details in the coming days.
This personal tragedy comes just a year after the MP and his wife suffered another painful loss—the passing of his father-in-law in July 2024. At that time, Mbai shared an emotional tribute to his wife, revealing the depth of sorrow the loss had brought to their family.
“My heart breaks for you, the Love of My Life,” he wrote then. “In all the 20-plus years we’ve been together, I’ve never seen you this devastated. I know the bond you shared with your father was unbreakable. I can never take his place, but I promise to be the father figure you need for the rest of my days under the sun.”
The series of personal losses have left the MP’s supporters and fellow leaders rallying around him in solidarity, offering comfort and support during this difficult period.
