University of Nairobi Issues Important Alert to First-Year Students Over Fake Admission Letters

The University of Nairobi (UoN) has issued a strong warning to all newly admitted first-year students, advising them to be cautious about misleading information circulating on unverified social media platforms that claim to represent the institution.

In an official statement released on Monday, July 21, the university flagged a fake social media post that falsely stated both government-sponsored (Module 1) and self-sponsored (Module 2) students could download their admission letters directly using their KCSE index numbers via the student portal.

The university clarified that this message did not originate from any of its verified sources and should be ignored.

To help incoming students avoid falling victim to scammers, UoN advised that all official admission updates should only be accessed through the university’s verified Facebook page, its official X (formerly Twitter) handle, or through SMS notifications sent directly to students’ phones.

For students under the Government-sponsored (Module 1) program, the university emphasized that all admission-related information is available exclusively on the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) website.

These students must use the KUCCPS portal to verify their placements and download their official documents.

On the other hand, students who fall under the self-sponsored (Module 2) category have been advised to contact the university directly via the official email address or the phone number provided by the university — especially if they haven’t received an SMS notification.

This will help them confirm their admission status and obtain the correct admission letter.

The University of Nairobi congratulated all successful applicants and urged them to be vigilant and follow official communication channels throughout the admission process.

“To ensure a seamless admission experience, kindly follow the instructions carefully based on your admission category,” the university stated.

As a helpful tip, UoN encouraged students to enable push notifications on their phones so they do not miss critical updates. “We will continue to send important updates via SMS until the entire admission process is complete,” the university added.

This advisory comes shortly after KUCCPS opened its Inter-Institutional Transfer (IIT) portal. In a statement dated Saturday, July 12, KUCCPS announced that students who wished to change the courses or institutions they had been placed in could do so between Monday, July 14 and Thursday, July 24.

However, KUCCPS clarified that such changes are only possible for applicants who meet the required cut-off points for their preferred courses or institutions. Students are advised to make these decisions carefully and within the given timeline.

With the admission season in full swing, the University of Nairobi is urging all prospective first-years to remain cautious, stay informed, and rely only on trusted sources for any updates.
