The Kenya Meteorological Department has announced that residents in many parts of the country should prepare for more rainfall, cool temperatures, and strong winds in the coming days.
In its latest weekly weather update, the department stated that regions such as Nairobi, Mombasa, Kiambu, and other parts of the country will continue to receive rain and experience cold spells.
The forecast shows that the Highlands to the east and west of the Rift Valley, along with coastal regions, will continue to see frequent showers and cloudy conditions. The skies are expected to remain mostly overcast throughout the week, with the exception of Saturday night, when a few areas may receive light showers.
In areas such as Nairobi and its surrounding counties, daytime temperatures are expected to reach highs of up to 28°C, while the nighttime temperatures could drop to as low as 7°C.
These regions will continue experiencing cool weather, with occasional showers mainly in the afternoons and evenings.
Meanwhile, counties like Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado, Taita Taveta, and inland parts of Tana River County will experience sunny weather during the day and cooler, cloudy conditions at night. Temperatures in these counties will range between a maximum of 31°C during the day and a minimum of 8°C at night.
In the coastal counties—Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, Kwale, and parts of Tana River—showers are expected in scattered locations for most of the week. These showers may ease briefly on Saturday afternoon and evening. Daytime temperatures in these regions will reach up to 30°C, while nighttime lows will hover around 20°C.
Counties located in the Lake Victoria Basin and parts of the western highlands—including Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, and others such as Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, and West Pokot—are expected to face rainy conditions, often accompanied by thunderstorms, for the better part of the week. Maximum temperatures here will rise up to 31°C, with minimums dipping to 8°C.
On the other hand, in the drier regions of Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo, residents should expect hot days with plenty of sunshine and cool, cloudy nights. Daytime highs will reach up to 35°C, with nighttime temperatures falling to around 14°C.
In Turkana and Samburu counties, weather conditions will remain mostly dry with sunshine throughout the day and cool nights. These areas will also record daytime highs of 35°C and lows of 8°C.
Additionally, the meteorological department has issued a warning about strong winds, especially in the coastal areas, south-eastern lowlands, and the north-eastern and north-western regions of the country.
These southerly to south-easterly winds may blow at speeds exceeding 25 knots, potentially causing dust storms and affecting transport in affected areas.
Counties in central Kenya—such as Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka, and Nairobi—will have sunny mornings throughout the week, with afternoon showers expected daily, except for Tuesday afternoon, which is forecasted to remain dry and sunny.
Overall, the Kenya Met Department advises citizens to stay updated with local weather alerts, especially those living in regions prone to heavy rainfall and strong winds, and to take necessary precautions to stay safe and minimize disruptions.
