ODM Mourns Death of Governor Simba Arati’s Sister
The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party has expressed deep sorrow following the death of Kisii Governor Simba Arati’s sister, Isabella Arati.
In a statement released on Saturday evening, the party confirmed the sad news and announced that Isabella would be laid to rest today, Sunday, August 10. The burial is taking place in Isinya, Kajiado County, close to the Entarakwet Hotel.
“We commiserate with our Deputy Party Leader, Simba Arati, following the loss of his sister, Isabella Arati,” the statement read. “The burial is scheduled for tomorrow (Sunday, 10/8) at her farm in Isinya, Kajiado County, next to Entarakwet Hotel. As a party, we stand in solidarity with the Arati family during this painful period of mourning.”
ODM did not disclose the cause of Isabella’s death or the exact date she passed away.
Earlier on Saturday, several local ODM leaders visited the Governor’s family to personally convey their condolences ahead of the burial.
The visiting delegation was led by ODM Chairman Paul Momanyi Kabos and Kisii youth leader Hezbon Mochama. After the visit, Mochama shared his message of sympathy on Facebook, referring to the late as Robina.
“Today, the Kisii team, led by ODM Chairman Paul Momanyi Kabos, visited the family of H.E. Simba Arati, who has lost his sister, Robina. She will be laid to rest tomorrow in Kiseriani. Pole sana, Governor,” Mochama wrote.
The Governor has been in mourning over multiple losses in recent days. Just three days earlier, on August 7, Arati announced the passing of another close acquaintance — Bishop Josiah Onyancha, a former gubernatorial contender in the 2022 General Election, who died alongside his wife, Hellen.
The couple tragically lost their lives in a horrific road accident along the Kisii-Narok Highway. They were travelling to attend their son Edwin Nyarangi’s graduation ceremony when the tragedy occurred.
“It is with heartfelt sorrow that I have learned of the passing of Bishop Josiah Onyancha and his wife, Hellen,” Arati stated at the time. “The couple tragically lost their lives in a horrific accident on the Kisii-Narok Highway while on their way to their son Edwin Nyarangi’s graduation.
Bishop Onyancha, who contested for the Kisii governorship in the 2022 General Election, will be remembered as a courageous, respected, and distinguished leader.
I extend my sincere condolences to the Onyancha family, his children, and friends. May they find strength, comfort, and peace during this extremely difficult time.”
This double tragedy has left the Governor and his community in deep mourning, with ODM members and residents rallying to support him during this period of grief.
